The Addiction to Intellect and How to Overcome It
Let me ask you a question. How different would your life be if you could consistently live in clear next steps toward your purpose and fulfillment? If you could align your contribution in life and business? Or build an efficient, empowered team that is motivated from the inside out?
Most business leaders want these things…
That’s why they hire coaches, take courses, and seek out consultants.
If you’ve done so yourself, you may have gained tremendous knowledge…
You may feel like you KNOW all you need to know to achieve the success you desire…
You have everything you need and all the tools in the ‘arsenal’ to unlock the next level of growth you desire.
From this perspective, it seems like it’s just a matter of implementing them.
It’s common for business leaders to tell me they have everything they need and it’s only about holding themselves accountable to using it all…
Only to come back to me years later wondering why, even with all they know they’re still not achieving the growth they desire…
You know what you need to get out of this plateau, but it’s not happening.
Why is this?
It’s not simply a matter of accountability. Nor is it a matter of more implementation.
These perceptions are bound to lead you around and around on a hamster wheel of what we call in Spiral Leadership Academy, Achiever’s Angst.
You’ve probably been taught that growth = knowledge + implementation.
But this recipe is missing some key pieces!
It’s not your fault you’ve seen it this way.
As humans, we are conditioned to take in knowledge from an intellectual place…
We learn. We absorb information, strategies, and techniques. But it’s all from the mind.
And, when it comes to cellular-level growth (the kind that changes patterns sustainably), the mind can work against us as much as it can work for us.
And so we know a lot. But the knowledge is surface…
It’s not embodied.
Then, we project that intellectualization onto other things in our lives…
And this costs the focus and productivity of our teams in ways we don’t realize.
It costs us time and money in ways we haven’t considered…
And it costs us the growth of our business, in addition to the well-being of our family.
Intellectualizing your knowledge and spirituality…
It will act as a block to growth because embodied growth requires you to access your unconscious mind, along with the energy in your body.
And you’ll likely even have this recurring thought or feeling:
“Thinking and ‘knowing’ things aren’t getting me very far. I want more than that. I need deeper energetic alignment.”
And this is as far as most people get…
They keep thinking this, not knowing how to get there… trying to “figure out” how to get there with the mind!
You may even be realizing that the comfort of intellectualizing your spirituality, or even your business acumen, is becoming…uncomfortable.
But this is the hamster wheel of the mind…
Even when we get to the point of realizing that’s what’s in the way, until we recondition and recalibrate ourselves to operate from the other parts of us that are meant to lead the way, the mind keeps getting in the way!
So what's the solution?
I’m going to give it to you in two parts…
The first recalibration looks like letting go of the need to use your intellectual mind for everything.
This looks like:
- Letting of the need to know or understand everything…
- Refraining from making meaning of thing things you don’t have an answer to yet…
- Remaining open to nonlinear ways of experiencing things.
- Letting of the societal perception that you need to be “smart” or “intellectual” to be successful…
When you do this, you begin to let the deeper wisdom within you guide you to bigger opportunities…
Better relationships…
And a bigger contribution to the world than you can have with intellectualization.
The difference between an established leader who operates from heady intellect…
And one who lives and communicates from authentic, ever-growing wisdom…
Is that the former plays into an old, unfulfilling paradigm…
And the latter aligns everything in their orbit to be a bigger contribution.
So why are there two parts to the recalibration?
Because shifting from intellectualizing your growth into embodying it on a cellular level is literally a process of overcoming addiction.
And overcoming addiction isn’t an overnight process!
Once you’ve settled into the pieces above, then you’ll be ready to:
- Adjust your sense of logic to meet the logic of Source perspective
- Recalibrate your version of flow to unite with the systems of energy that will guide you to have more of it
- Shift your access to the somatics and sensations in your body to get to unconscious layers and subtle energies even while you’re busy working
- Become a vessel for Source perspective while you’re speaking and writing, so that you can be a bigger contribution
Everything will change once you do this…
When you unwind your brain and your nervous system from addiction to thought and learn to embody what you know…
You won’t need hand-holding from others.
Instead, you’ll have the answers within yourself…
You’ll go into the deepest cracks and crevices without needing to rely on someone else for help…
And you’ll speed up the growth of your business by expanding beyond the 3-dimensional world of business…
To be a more effective leader of your vision.
